The city of Seki flourished as Japan's number one center for swordsmithing, and those traditional techniques have been handed down through the generations to today's swordsmiths and knife makers. Seki is known internationally as one of the most highly regarded blade-producing areas in the world.
Seki's blade industry is notable for its social division of labor, with different workers handling different parts of the production process.
The advantage of this is that workers can put to use their specialized knowledge and expertise to create a higher quality finished product.
Knife exports from Gifu Prefecture, mainly focused in Seki, make up 55.3% of all knife exports countrywide.
One of Japan's top import partners for various products including knives is the US, and exports to the country were worth ¥3.21 billion in 2015. That represents about one quarter of all shipments within the US.

Made in a Seki factory with a 57 year history, known for high precision stainless steel processing, polishing technique that produces an incredible shine, and aluminum processing essential for creating a lightweight product.
The center of our damascus steel is made of VG-10 steel, which has a high carbon content of 1% carbon for incredible hardness and strength, while each side is coated with 16 layers of low-carbon stainless steel, which is resistant to corrosion, for a total of 33 layers.
With the Fuji series, we have used 33 layers of damascus steel to create an especially beautiful wave pattern on the blade.
